Neva Lukić

She received her master’s degrees in art history and archeology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zagreb and in the theory of modern and contemporary art from Leiden University in the Netherlands. She works as a writer, curator and art critic. She is a member of AICA (International Association of Art Critics), ULUPUH (Croatian Association of  Applied Art Artists), HDP (Croatian Writers Society), HZSU (Croatian Freelance Artists' Association).

Since in the last eleven years she has lived in different cities such as Leiden, The Hague, Rijeka, Zagreb and Belgrade, she is interested in the phenomenon of the cross-border interactions and identitites and intercultural exchanges. By practising interdisciplinary approach towards visual arts, literature and exhibition organisation she tends to connect the curatorial practice with the writing one. Primarily she is focused on the issue of  "narrative", "the identity" and most of all -  "the language."

She has participated in poetry readings and festivals of short story, poetry and film such as Stih u regiji (Verse in the Region) (Zagreb), Feminizam je za sve (Feminism is for all) (Zagreb), FLEM- festival literature europskog Mediterana (Literature Festival of European Mediterranean) (Belgrade), Trgni se poezija /Wince, Poetry) (Belgrade), International Poetry Festival Orpheus (Plovdiv), Tbilisi International Poetry Festival (Tbilisi), Sajam knjiga (Book Fair) (Ljubljana), Sajam knjiga (Book Fair) (Belgrade), NEMAF-International New Media Festival (Seoul), Short film Corner (Cannes), Netherlands Film Festival (Utrecht), etc.

Her poems and short stories have been translated into Macedonian, Slovenian, Bulgarian, Georgian and English language.

collaborations

Lukić has collaborated with other artists – of which the following stand out: The Motel in the Well (2016., part of LIMA collection, Amsterdam), in collaboration with the video artist and film maker Sara Rajaei, the drama P(j)eščanik (The Sandbox) in collaboration with the writer Viktor Radonjić and poetry performance Beneath the Wheels Rivers Flow with performer Nevena Radulović.

 

She has also run literary-performing workshops TijeloRIJEČI (with Josipa Bubaš).

art historian

Lukić has curated a large number of solo exhibitions, and has authored or co-authored a number of thematically conceived group exhibitions. She has collaborated with various institutions, non-profit organizations and collections-HDLU- Zagreb, NMMU- Zagreb,  Orsula d.o.o.- Zagreb, MLU -Osijek, MMSU -Rijeka, Waag Society- Amsterdam, Arti et Amicitiae - Amsterdam, etc and has participated

in various residences and programs - Het Wilde Weten/Rotterdam; What Could/Should Curating
Do
(Belgrade) for which she was supported by Mondriaan Funds;The Autumn School of Curating /Cluj/Timisoara; 9th Cei Venice forum for contemporary art curators/Venice, etc. From 2017 to 2019, she was an active member of See Lab, an artist-run art initiative in The Hague. She regularly publishes exhibition reviews and interviews with artists in newspapers and magazines. She has
been member of a few expert commissions in Croatia for selection or purchase of artworks, and as well as for awarding prizes (Youth salon/HDLU, 2010,  Radoslav Putar award 2021, Erste fragments award).

Since November 2021, she has been working with the Hestia Art Residency & Exhibitions Bureau from Belgrade as a curator and gallery manager. She participates in presenting the gallery at conferences and fairs and was the manager of the Manifesta 14 Western Balkans.
The last major exhibition, i.e. the curatorial conception of Neva Lukić, is the exhibition Exploitation-Appropriation: The Case of M.S in the Museum of Fine Arts in Osijek, April-June 2023.
